Rishikesh, termed the ‘world’s yoga capital, is a town in the Indian state of Uttarkhand. Triveni Ghat Ganga Aarti– The Maha Aarti, or Ganga Aarti as it is more well called, is one of the most enchanting views in Rishikesh. Numerous priests offering aarti to the holy river Ganga in unison is a visual feast. A bustling mood is created by a large number of devotees and guests reciting bhajans to the accompaniment of drums and bells. Observing hundreds of diyas floating in the holy river by devotees is a soul-soothing experience that must be experienced when in Rishikesh.
Lakshman Jhula Bridge– Lakshman Jhula is a suspension bridge that spans the raging Ganges. It was constructed about 70 years ago when the previous bridge was wiped away by floods.
It is 450 feet long and provides a picturesque perspective of the rushing Ganga River below. According to Indian legend, Lord Rama’s younger brother Lakshman crossed the river using jute ropes near the location of the present-day majestic bridge. Additionally, a slew of stores and cafés have sprung up in the area over time. The whole region of Lakshman Jhula is worth visiting.
The Beatles Ashram – The Beatles Ashram, as it is now generally known, is a must-see destination for everyone who enjoys isolation. Since 1968, when the world-famous music group ‘The Beatles’ stayed here, the ashram became known as the Beatles Ashram. Within the ashram grounds, there are several kutiras (meditation chambers) where you may meditate or just read a book. You may also take a leisurely walk around the ashram, admiring the artwork and taking in the peaceful surroundings.
Tera Manzil Temple– Located directly on the banks of the Ganga and near to Lakshman Jhula, this temple is unique in that it has 13 levels and each floor has symmetrical statues of different Hindu gods. Though climbing all 13 levels of the temple is tough for most, the breathtaking view of the town and Lakshman Jhula Bridge from the topmost floor is well worth the effort. Within the temple complex, there are several tiny stores offering souvenirs and antiquities.
